attendance, Leadership 100 helps make camp as accessible
as possible to the families of our Metropolis. Funds were
used primarily for scholarships, to reduce costs and for
travel.
Metropolis of New Jersey Camp Good Shepherd was
operated for four weeks held in four sessions in three
different states of the Metropolis: New Jersey, Virginia, and
Maryland with more than 300 campers. The camp once
again saw an increase in registration this year, partially
because they were able to provide scholarships for those
children who otherwise would be unable to attend due to
the cost. Leadership 100 monies of $7,500 were used to
provide scholarships for those children who needed
financial assistance, and to give stipends amounting to
$17,400 for the counselors who dedicate their time to the
youth of the Metropolis. The remaining funds of $5,100
were used for running the program. Program costs
amounted to $5,100.
Metropolis of Pittsburgh Summer Camp at Camp Nazareth
hosted 425 campers this summer, an increase of 45 campers
from the last summer of 2023. In addition, 57 staff
members assisted throughout the four weeks of camp.
Grant funds were used in part to cover our staff training
which was held in May. Leadership 100 funding provides
for the needs of the camp while keeping the registration fee
for campers as low as possible. Additionally, the grant
money is used for medical, camper, and staff supplies.
There were many returning campers and after camp, a
survey of campers to get feedback.
Though rent has increased, Camp Nazareth kept camper
fees the same and keeps the cost of camp as affordable as
possible for campers and their families. A portion of the
Leadership 100 grant assisted in covering the per-person
payment that is due for staff and camper, Funds were also
used to cover supplies that are necessary for campers and
staff.
Scholarships of $1,725 were provided and $7,120 helped
with transportation to and from camp in the eastern part of
our Metropolis. Supplies to efficiently run the program for
campers and staff, for medical purposes and other purposes
amounted to $11,592.
Metropolis of San Francisco Summer Camp at St. Nicholas
Ranch was closed for two summers due to Covid-19
restrictions, and was reopened in 2022. Capacity was

limited in 2022 and 2023 to 80 and in 2024 to 90-100
campers instead of the regular 115 capacity due to the
facility’s request, and the fact that less staff applications (45)
were received than in past years. Attracting qualified and
mature staff who are available in the summer has become
difficult, as many young adults need financial support to
pay their bills and cover the cost of transportation to camp
while volunteering for the camp ministry. Session 1 and 3
were sold out with 90 campers and 30+ on the waitlists and
Session 2 had 75 campers for this summer. The feedback
from the campers and parents continues to be
overwhelmingly positive.
As the main criteria of the Leadership 100 (L100) funds is
to offer financial assistance to those campers that would
like to participate in the camping program but are not
financially able to do so, the Metropolis of San Francisco is
pleased to report that the Metropolis was able to offer full
and partial camp scholarships to 45 Camper and Clergy
families this year as well as $2,000 towards a charter bus for
the campers coming from Southern California for Session
1, and $1,000 towards rental vans for a group of campers
coming from Portland, Oregon. Since the Metropolis is
large and includes the seven western states, travel to the
camp is very expensive and thus many applications are
received from out-of-state families asking for additional
help in sending their children to the Metropolis camp since
it is not within driving distance.
To meet the main specific objective set forth in the grant
application for the funds, i.e. to offer financial assistance to
those campers and Clergy families that would like to
participate in the camping program but are not financially
able to do so, this year the Metropolis of San Francisco
utilized $17,387.50 for Clergy Family scholarships, $575 for
camper sibling discounts, and allocated $2,000 for the So
Cal Charter Bus and $1,000 for rental vans coming from
Oregon, helping about 60 additional campers get to camp.
Without the use of the Oregon vans and So Cal bus, many
of the families would not be able to get their kids to camp.
To help offset other program costs, $9,037 was allocated to
help support our growing program, lifeguard certifications,
and staff flights from across the country.
Each year 100% of the $30,000 Leadership 100 grant is
utilized. This year there were an overwhelming number of
both camper and clergy scholarships. The Leadership 100
grant was able to fund the clergy family scholarships in
addition to regular camper sibling discounts, bus
transportation, lifeguard certifications, and staff flights.
